Serve on the Advocacy Committee

The Lakeland Chamber's Advocacy Committee promotes policies conducive to a strong business climate, plans programs and briefings on public policy, updates and interprets local and legislative agendas, and recommends policy positions to the Chamber’s Board of Directors. Advocacy Committee membership is limited to Chamber members.

2025 Business Plan: Focus on Advocacy
"The State of American Business is local because businesses serve people where they are,” said U.S. Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Suzanne P. Clark in this year’s “State of American Business” address. All policy is local, and policymakers must do their part to help communities grow and thrive.
  • In the southeast, 80% of adults believe chambers represent the collective voice of their business community.
  • 65% of business owners believe the chamber advocates for policies that positively impact the health of their business.
Together with 1,200 member businesses, the Chamber monitors and responds to policies and initiatives that affect free enterprise through our Advocacy Committee, Education Committee, Signature Events (such as Legislative Wrap-Up and Politics in the Park),  and, in partnership with the Florida Chamber, offering a path to the Florida Institute for Public Leadership.

Chair: Brandon Silk, Brown & Brown
Staff Liaison: Kassia Alamm, Director of Strategic Communications & Public Affairs

Our partners at the Florida Chamber Foundation have developed The Florida Scorecard™ to provide state and local stakeholders with the metrics to measure progress toward meeting the goals outlined in the  Florida 2030 Blueprint, a two-year research program that engaged business and community leaders in each of Florida’s 67 counties and identified key trends and the factors that drive their regional economies.

BusinessVoice of Greater Lakeland

BusinessVoice, Inc. was created by a group of Chamber members in 2000 to act specifically as a political organization. The Chamber is involved in advocating for issues that affect the business community but does not participate directly in the politics of the election process. The PAC offers members of the Chamber who choose to also join BusinessVoice the opportunity to have a direct influence on State and Local elections. Since membership in BusinessVoice is limited to Lakeland Chamber member companies, the Chamber serves as administrator.
