Lakeland, Fl., November 9, 2022 – On Wednesday, November 23, Volunteers in Service to the Elderly (VISTE) will hold its 26th Annual Thanksgiving Meal Delivery. The family-friendly event benefits local seniors in need age 70-106 and helps kick off the holiday season.

Hundreds of community volunteers assist with the event by donating items, prepping meals for delivery, and delivering meals. VISTE clients will receive decorated tote bags containing a traditional holiday meal with all the trimmings, handmade items by local schoolchildren, and a live poinsettia. A total of 2,000 meals will be delivered. Volunteers are currently needed to help deliver meals. On the day of the event, Wednesday, November 23, between 12:30-3pm, volunteer drivers will use a convenient, drive-through pick-up line at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland. Please note: Volunteers must pre-register by November 15, by signing up at or by contacting Patty Johnson, Volunteer and Events Manager at or (863) 210-5593.

VISTE President Steve Bissonnette said, “We are so grateful for everyone who helps make this event possible. We couldn’t do this each year without significant financial and volunteer support from the community.” Support for the event is provided by contributions from individuals, community groups, local businesses, churches, and in-kind donations, as well as generous sponsorships by GEICO Philanthropic Foundation, The Mosaic Foundation, and T. Mims Corp. Additional community partners for the event include RP Funding Center, Levy Restaurants, Flower Foods of Lakeland, Sunshine Growers, and Grasslands Golf and Country Club. VISTE’s mission is to enable elderly persons to remain safely and independently in their own homes. The nonprofit organization, founded in 1983, provides a range of services for 4,000 at-risk seniors, free of charge, thanks to a large volunteer base and the generosity of the community.
