THURSAY, SEPT. 29 – MORNING UPDATE (9:15AM)

  • City crews are performing damage assessments and Lakeland Electric is restoring power as quickly and safely as possible.
  • Assessment teams are on the ground and street clearing crews are clearing the roadways from debris and downted trees.
  • At 9:00 a.m. we are reporting 63,500 customers without power.  At 9:15 – 3,000 of those already have their power restored.
  • An estimated restoration time will be shared as soon as possible.
  • The Call Center is only responding to storm-related calls today.
  • Over 100 mutual aid from Texas and Tennessee are arriving today and tomorrow to assist with power restoration.
  • Thanks to our Smart Grid System, power outages are automatically reported to Lakeland Electric so customers don’t need to call.
  • Customers are encouraged to report downed poles, downed wires and tree limbs on wires to 863-834-9535.
  • Stay away from downed power lines. It is impossible to tell if a power line is energized by just looking at it. Always treat it as extremely dangerous.

LE Status:

  • We have moved into Phase 5 – Restoration of our emergency plan. Let me know if you have any questions about the phases.
  • The Call Center is open and is only answering storm-related calls today. We will share any updates about changes to the call center hours with you if and when they occur. Any calls related to billing and associated topics (existing payment plans, cut-offs related to lack of payments, etc.) will be deferred until our normal Call Center operations re-commence.
  • The LE Lobby will be closed today until further notice.
