LAKELAND, Fla. — On Friday, April 29, Southeastern University (SEU) will host a free event featuring guest speaker Kristen Waggoner at 10:30 a.m. in the Lake Bonny Room of the Welcome Center on the university’s Lakeland campus. Waggoner will present a lecture entitled “Living in Babylon: Legal Challenges and Opportunities for the Church Today,” followed by a Q&A session.
The event is open to the public and requires registration for attendance. Free brunch will also be served. Pre-register for the event here.
Waggoner currently serves as General Counsel with Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), and will be speaking at SEU’s Spring 2022 Commencement ceremony later that evening. ADF is a faith-based legal advocacy organization that engages in litigation, legislative work, training, funding and public advocacy. Since joining ADF, Waggoner has taken part in representing the winning parties in two U.S. Supreme Court decisions, including Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission and Uzuebgunam v. Presczewski. She will argue her third case at the U.S. Supreme Court this fall.
Waggoner has broad experience in civil litigation and employment, nonprofit and constitutional law. After clerking with Washington Supreme Court Justice Richard B. Sanders, she spent 16 years at Ellis, Li & McKinstry PLLC, a Seattle law firm, before joining ADF in 2013. In addition, she is a frequent legal commentator in television, radio and print media including appearing on The View, The Today Show, CBS Sunday Morning, ABC Nightline and more.
