(Lakeland, FL) A dynamic coalition of nonprofits including The Salvation Army, the Homeless Coalition of Polk County, Polk for Recovery, Talbot House Ministries and LkldNow will host a unique, free community discussion entitled “Humanity, Housing and Homelessness: A Solutions Summit” from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Catapult. Those interested in attending can register online here:

This new event is designed to engage the public on the issues of homelessness and affordable housing in Polk County. Guests will be able to dialogue with a panel of city leaders including: Lakeland Mayor Bill Mutz; Bridget Engleman, Executive Director of the Homeless Coalition of Polk County; Megan Petersen, Domestic Violence Primary Prevention Advocate at Peace River Center; Dr. Brenda Reddout, Executive Director of Talbot House Ministries; and Ben Ruch, Homeless Liaison for Polk County Public Schools. Also represented on the panel will be Barbara Shenandoah, whose firsthand experience with homelessness will help to inform the conversation. The panel will be moderated by veteran journalist and LkldNow contributor, Andrea Oliver.

Community members are encouraged to participate during a question and answer session and in post-panel breakout sessions. The goal of this program is to discuss the current scope of the homelessness problem, the resources that currently exist within Polk County, and the opportunities and challenges to ensuring that homelessness is brief and non-recurring in our community.

Participants can attend in-person at Catapult or virtually through LkldNow’s live streams on Facebook and YouTube. A recording will also be available on after the conclusion of the event.
