(January 24, 2022) – Harrison School for the Arts will host Lakeland Sister Cities International’s “Young Artists and Authors Showcase” opening reception on February 7, 2022, from 6 to 7 p.m. This is a free event and open to the public.  Harrison School for the Arts is located at 750 Hollingsworth Rd., Lakeland, FL 33801.

Artists and authors, ages 13-18 from Lakeland-area schools have been invited to submit work.  The theme for Sister Cities International’s 2022 Young Artists Showcase is: “Generation Rescue: Sustainable Water for All”.  In line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, Sister Cities International (SCI) has adopted climate change as the overarching theme.  Students were asked to create art based on climate change and the impact on water resources.

Lakeland Sister Cities International (LSCI), a chapter of Sister Cities International, was formed in 1990.  The mission of LSCI is to develop relationships with people and cities of similar interests to Lakeland from around the world.  This unique program encourages cultural and educational exchanges, business opportunities and increased tourism by encouraging direct personal and professional relationships at the grass roots level.  The City of Lakeland has five International Sister Cities listed below with the year the relationship was established.

  • Balti, Moldova                                     1997
