Throughout its nearly 60-year history, Westwood’s campus has never had an indoor gymnasium. In 2019, plans were announced for the 15,117 square foot gymnasium building. The project began in March 2020 in an empty field near the school.
The $5.3 million project was completed in May 2021, and students began enjoying the new facility at the start of the 2021-22 school year.
The facility is hosting a variety of athletic programs, including basketball and volleyball games. It will also serve as an important multipurpose meeting space for the school and community.
This major improvement to Westwood’s campus would not have been possible without the school district’s half-cent sales tax referendum. This initiative was renewed by Polk County voters in 2018 and is critical for school construction and improvements.
