LAKELAND, FL (June 25, 2021) – The City of Lakeland Public Works Department/ Construction and Maintenance Division will be constructing a streetscape enhancement project on southside of Main Street from Tennessee Avenue to Kentucky Avenue. The project will extend the streetscape, creating a larger area for pedestrians and additional outdoor sitting areas for restaurants. The existing 11-parking spaces along the southside of Main Street from Tennessee Avenue to Kentucky Avenue will be eliminated as part of the project. The work is scheduled to start on July 6, 2021 and projected to take about 45 days to complete.
Traffic using the east bound lane of Main Street will be detoured south on Tennessee Avenue to Lime Street during the project. The project will be completed in two phases to cause less impact to businesses and vehicular traffic. Phase one of the project will begin at the intersection of Main Street and Tennessee Avenue and will go mid-block to the vicinity of Linksters Tap Room at 209 E Main Street. Phase two will start immediately after phase one to meet the projected August completion date.
During construction, there will be pedestrian walking areas designated near the buildings and City crews remind those traveling in the area do so with caution. The project is Funded by the Downtown CRA and the Lakeland Downtown Development Agency.
