LAKELAND, FL (June 8, 2021) – City Manager Shawn Sherrouse appointed Brian Rewis as Interim Director of Community & Economic Development.  Sherrouse said, “As the Assistant Director, Brian is intimately familiar with the responsibilities of the Department and he is an advocate for our customers and the citizens we serve. During his 18-year tenure with the City of Lakeland he has worked his way up in the Department and I have full confidence that he will continue to provide the highest levels of public service.”

Rewis was first hired by the City of Lakeland on June 2, 2003, in the position of Code Enforcement Division Manager.  He was promoted to the position of Assistant Director of Community & Economic Development on December 23, 2018.

Rewis said, “I am truly honored and blessed to have been asked to serve as Interim Director of Community & Economic Development.  The Department has flourished amidst unprecedented growth under the leadership of Nicole Travis who is now the City’s Deputy City Manager.  With a great team of talented professionals in place, I am ready for the challenge to build on that success and deliver the exceptional quality of life that our community deserves.”

The Interim Director of Community & Economic Development will be a direct report to Deputy City Manager, Nicole Travis.  Rewis will assume all duties, responsibilities and authority of the Director of Community & Economic Development. He will be paid an annual salary of $140,672 effective June 7, 2021.

The City of Lakeland was incorporated January 1885 and has grown to become one of the largest inland communities in Florida.  With a current population over 100,000 Lakeland continues to grow, capitalizing on its ideal central Florida location along the I-4 corridor. Lakeland has been designated a Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area by the US Census Bureau for over 35 years. The City owns and operates Lakeland Electric, the third largest publicly owned utility in Florida and it was one of the first to offer power in the Sunshine State over a century ago.
