LAKELAND, Fla. – After a thorough nationwide search, Southeastern University announced today that the university’s new provost and chief academic officer will be Meghan Griffin, Ph.D.
Griffin currently serves as the associate provost and dean of unrestricted education at Southeastern. In that role, she was the lead academic officer of the university’s largest academic unit. She provided strategic leadership over the college’s academic affairs, including curriculum, governance procedures, partnership initiatives, assessment and planning activities, and accreditation.
An experienced and innovative academic leader, Griffin joined Southeastern in 2017 after serving six years at Daytona State College as assistant and associate professor of management, assistant chair and program chair. Her early career included roles as a research associate at the University of Central Florida and director of extension site student services at Palm Beach Atlantic University.
Since earning her doctorate in texts and technology from the University of Central Florida in 2012, she has published on classical Christian education, material semiotics and network theory, and embodiment philosophy and embodied cognition. She has taught courses in management, communication and leadership. She earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Palm Beach Atlantic University and a Bachelor of Arts in English degree from Rollins College. Griffin also holds a Graduate Certificate in Professional Writing.
She will replace William Hackett, Jr., who has served as the university’s provost since 2012 and will continue serving the campus community as provost emeritus.
“Dr. Griffin has proven herself to be a visionary and dynamic leader in her current role, and we are looking forward to her continued leadership as the university’s chief academic officer,” said Kent Ingle, Southeastern University president.
In accepting this role, Griffin said, “Southeastern has become a network of campuses positioned for the future of higher education opportunities for students. Our distinctive faculty, our institutional mindset for partnership and our innovative posture mean Southeastern’s best days are ahead.”
In her new role, Griffin will take the lead in consolidating the university’s academic activities in a manner that extends the agility of the unrestricted education operation to an expanded university-wide network, while ensuring the quality of academic credentials across sites, campuses and delivery models.
